Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She became chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, including budget reform, tax reform as well as the Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
